Description: A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right? Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the "nuts." Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward.

The movie itself is easily a 10. A must watch movie.

The transfer is best this film has looked. That isn't saying a lot though. Fine detail is rare and in many of the shots the film looks a touch out of focus. I didn't notice any artifacts or use of EE or DNR. Also, I didn't notice any dirt or anomalies within the film. With that said I would put it at around a 6-7.5 for picture quality of a film of this age.

This film is dialog driven. Although remastered in DD5.1 the surround channels are silent with exception of the score. The dialog is tied to the center channel and there are no sweeps to the mains in pans or scenes with movement. The audio presentation is as stark as the mental ward the film takes place in. And as such fits the film quite well. I would rate the audio as 5.

If you haven't seen this movie do yourself a favor and check it out. Definitely a classic. It is easy to see why this film won 5 Oscars.

If you can find it for $15 bucks you should add it to your collection. If you can't spare the extra $8 I saw the DVD version which includes all of the extras for $7.
