The Movie Itself stars Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. This isn’t your typical mafia or “wise guys” movie, it’s different in a lot of ways. One namely that the lead character “Donnie Brasco” (played by Depp) isn’t really who his friend “Lefty” (played by Pacino) thinks he is. “Donnie” is really an undercover F.B.I. agent trying to infiltrate the mafia. That’s obviously not the plot twist to this film as the audience learns this from the very beginning up until the two characters first speak. What’s great and what will keep you watching (even if the movie is over 2 hours long like most mafia or “wise guys” movies are) is the chemistry on screen between Depp and Pacino. And as you would figure that being said, you really start to like both “Donnie” and “Lefty.” I’ll keep this review short and sweet and get to the real points at hand on this Blu-ray Disc release.

Video Quality in the transfer is quiet good for this Sony Home Entertainment effort as always. The AVC MPEG-4 encoded on the 50 gigabyte Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc really pays off like previous releases such as Casino Royale.

Audio Quality in this release is nothing short of awesome. Dialog obviously comes primarily through the front left, right and center channel in both sound mixes available on this release. What’s really impressive is the gunshot sounds. The uncompressed Linear PCM 5.1 mix is where the real fun is at, so if you have a receiver capable of HDMI you’re really going to enjoy this mix.

Bonus Materials are really what is disappointing on this release. There’s nothing more here than two 480p (Fullscreen) documentaries on the film taken from the original DVD release.
